Janet J. Umbenhouer

Janet Jean (Symons) Umbenhouer, 64, formerly of Muhlenberg Township, died May 20th at 12:15 am in Berks Heim Annex, Bern Township, where she had been since September 16, 2004.

Born in Reading, she was a daughter of the late Charles Robert and Margaret D. (Anderson) Symons.

She was a 1959 graduate of Muhlenberg High School.

Umbenhouer was employed for over 20 combined years as a waitress at the 5th Street Diner, Muhlenberg Township and the West Reading Diner.

She last worked as a cafeteria worker for the Muhlenberg School District four years before retiring in 2000.

Umbenhouer is survived by four daughters, Susan J. (Knowles) Dougherty of Muhlenberg Township, Sharon L. (Knowles) Hummel of Reading, Kimberly S. (Knowles) Althouse of Laureldale and Jennifer A. (Knowles) Bolich of Shoemakersville.

She is also survived by two sons, Shawn R. Knowles of Philadelphia and Daryl G. Knowles of Reading.

Other survivors include a sister, Alice L. Symons of Hyde Park and a brother, Donald R. Symons of Laureldale.

There are also seven grandchildren.

Services will be Tuesday at 10:00 am in Walter R. Christ Funeral Home, Inc., Laureldale. Viewing Monday evening 6:30 - 8:00 pm in the funeral home. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Exeter Township.
