Janet L. Ray

Janet L. Ray, 73, Reading, died of natural causes March 1 at 2:10 a.m. in Reading Hospital, where she had been a patient since Feb. 25.

Born in Reading, she was a daughter of the late Warren and Anna (Brossman) Schollenberger.

Ray was employed for 10 years as a customer service/sales representative by Sears Roebuck & Co., Wyomissing, retiring in 1994. Following her retirement, she served in the foster grandparent program at 10th and Green; Riverside; Glenside; and 12th and Marion elementary schools, last working at the Northwest Elementary School, retiring in September 2003.

She was a 1949 graduate of Reading High School and a graduate of the Reading Business Institute.

Ray was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Mount Penn, where she was a greeter and headed the greeters program for several years.

Surviving is a daughter, Donna L. (Ray) Marburger, Reading.

Other survivors include a sister, Miriam (Schollenberger) Ziegler, a resident at Berks Heim; a granddaughter and a great-granddaughter.

Services will be Friday at 1 p.m. in Walter R. Christ Funeral Home Inc., Laureldale. Burial will be in Charles Evans Cemetery.
