Janet R. McBryan, 79, passed away March 11, 2016, at ManorCare, Sinking Spring, surrounded by family members.
Born in 1936, in Hazleton, Pa, Janet was the daughter of Edward L. and Elizabeth P. (Praetorius) Roderick. She graduated from Upper Darby High School, where she was the Eastern Pennsylvania State Rifle Champion. She attended Penn State University, and received a degree in Zoology in 1957. After graduation, she was employed at Merck, Sharpe and Dohme as a laboratory technician where she worked on the early polio vaccine.
She married her high school sweetheart, Don McBryan in 1961. Two years later, she left the work force to become a full time mother, a job at which she excelled. During those years, she found time to be an excellent bowler, tennis player and gourmet cook. She was a member of St. John Baptist de LaSalle Mother's Club. She inaugurated the St. John's School Hot Lunch Program, earning the nickname among the students as the "Hot Lunch Mom".
Janet loved to travel. She particularly enjoyed her family's many vacations to Kiawah Island, South Carolina.
She is survived by her husband Don and three children: Donald Jr (and Valerie) of Mohnton, Pa., Mike (and Shelly) of Doylestown, Pa. and Elizabeth (and Pat) Donahue of Wyomissing, Pa. There are nine grandchildren: Patrick, Corinne, Brianna, Sean, Michael, Meghan, Melissa, Hayley and Daniel.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Kathryn McKelvie.
Friends can call, at the church, from 9- 10 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, March 18, 2016 at 10:00 am at St. Benedict's Church 2020 Chestnut Hill Road, Mohnton, Pa. Internment will be held in Gethsemane Cemetery.
