Jane E. Longenecker, 96, of Wyomissing, passed away Friday, January 11, 2019, in Reading Hospital.
She was the wife of Chester L. Longenecker, Sr., who died December 2002.
Born in Reading, she was the daughter of the late Charles E. and Daisy (Reichert) Stoudt.
Jane worked as a silk screen printer for many years at Grafika Commercial Printing. Earlier, she worked on air craft at Reading Airport supporting the World War II efforts, then later in sales at the sewing department at Pomeroy's.
She was an excellent traditional Pennsylvania German cook, especially her Christmas cookies. Jane used recipes handed down from her mother, and passed them down through the generations. She also loved spending time with her family on summer vacations at Beach Haven, New Jersey.
Jane used her sewing skills, making baby items for The Women's Exchange, West Reading. She also made many "Father Christmas's" for her friends and family.
She was a past Matron and life member of Reading Chapter 251, Order of the Eastern Star.
From 2003 through 2018, Jane participated in Swimnastics, five days a week at the Wyomissing Pool, and three days a week during the winter at Aerobics and Step Aerobics at the Stone House, Wyomissing.
Jane is survived by three children: Chester L. Longenecker, Jr., husband of Joanne, Wyomissing; Bruce E. Longenecker, husband of Maureen, Wyomissing; and Nan J. McSurdy, wife of Robert, North Las Vegas. Seven Grandchildren: Thomas and Andrew Longenecker, Jennifer Cambria, Melissa Beauvais, Elizabeth Toigo-Epting, Amanda Davis, and Emily Joyce; 17 great grandchildren; and one brother, Charles "Chick" Stoudt , Boyertown, also survive her.
She was predeceased by four siblings: Wayne and Edward Stoudt, Fern Schade, and Ruth Hoy; and her beloved Siamese cat of 18 years, "Kats", which Jane found and rescued.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, January 16, 2019, at 2 p.m., at Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Avenue, West Reading. Burial will follow in Pleasant View Cemetery. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service in the funeral home from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Jane's honor to St. Mark's U.C.C.
