James D. Williams

James D. Williams, Sr., 65, of Laureldale died April 14 at 9:20 p.m. in Reading Hospital where he had been for one day.

He was the husband of Lannette J. (Parsons) Williams.

Born in Alderson, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Leslie and Lula (Cadle) Williams.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army touring twice in Vietnam. He was a Chemical Operations Specialist.

He received the Army Service Ribbon, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Aircraft Crewman Badge, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device 60. He also was a recipient of the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross, the Unit Citation Badge with Palm, the Army Commendation Medal, the Overseas Service Bars (3), the Overseas Service Ribbon with Numeral I, the Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, the Army Good Conduct Medal (5th award) and the Sharpshooter Badge (Rifle).

He was also a recipient of both the Bronze Star and Purple Heart.

In addition to his wife he is survived by two sons, James D. Williams, Jr., Midway, Georgia and Michael Todd Williams, Muhlenberg Twp. There is also one daughter Patricia D. (Thomas) Bowdle. Other survivors include one brother, Lyle Williams, Alderson, West Virginia and two sisters, Gladys Williams, Lewisburg, West Virginia and Margie (Williams) Concox, Belwood, Alabama.

There are also 5 grandchildren.

Williams was predeceased by one son Leslie A. Williams on December 24, 2005.

Services will be Tuesday at 3 p.m. in Walter R. Christ Funeral Home, Inc., Laureldale.
