James T. Tsakeris, 87, of West Wyomissing, died December 28, 2015.
He was the husband of Vlacia Maria (Sofianos) Tsakeris; they were married 59 years.
Born in Reading, he was a son of the late Athanasios and Thalia (Lambros) Tsakeris.
James was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Korean Conflict.
He initially worked for Berkshire Knitting Mills, and later was a 33 year employee for the County of Berks, where he was named the first county draftsman. James played a critical role in organizing AFSCME for the county.
James was an election inspector for many years in various locations, most recently in West Wyomissing.
He was an avid Yankee and Reading High School basketball fan.
James was a member of Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, Reading, where he was a board member, Sunday school teacher, sang in the choir, and office volunteer.
Family was most important to him. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters: Catherine A. Tsakeris, wife of John Rogowski, Downingtown and Pamela E., wife of Michael Werle, Reading; and four grandchildren: Elena C. and Jillian M. Rogowski; and Alexandra M. and Michael J. Werle. Several nieces and nephews also survive him.
He was predeceased by his infant son, Paul S. Tsakeris; and three brothers: Michael; Stan and his late wife Catherine; and Steve.
Services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. in Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 1001 E. Wyomissing Blvd, Reading, PA 19611. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park. Friends may call Thursday from 9 to 10 a.m. in the church. Contributions may be made to the church at the above address. Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., West Reading is in charge of arrangements.
