James, Sr. Born

James Born Sr., 91, formerly of Wyomissing Hills, passed away January 5, 2017, at the Highlands of Wyomissing.

His wife, Lucy M. (Wolff) Born, passed away February 19, 2011.

He was very proud that he was born on St. Patrick's Day in 1925 in Lebanon, the son of the late George and Margaret (Kennedy) Born.

James was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving on the USS Wisconsin.

He was a graduate of Gettysburg College.

James was a partner for Kurtz, Dowd & Nuss, an insurance brokerage.

He was a member of Saint Ignatius Loyola Roman Catholic Church, Whitfield.

James was a devout Catholic and supported many charities in the church including Berks Catholic High School. He was a warm outgoing gentleman, always willing to lend a hand or an ear. He loved vacationing in Stone Harbor, NJ with his extended family.

He was predeceased by his son, James Born Jr., his daughter, Mary Louise Born, and his sister Eileen Born Herbster.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, January 11, 2017, at 11:30 a.m. in St. Ignatius Church, 2810 St. Albans Drive, Reading, PA 19608. Burial will follow in Gethsemane Cemetery. A viewing will be held Wednesday from 10:30-11:30 in the church. Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home Inc., West Reading is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Berks County Community Foundation, 237 Court Street, Reading, PA 19601 in James's name.
