James A. Rowe, 67, of Sumter, SC, passed away September 21, 2013 in Tuomey Hospital with his daughters by his side.
His wife, Patricia (McDonald) Rowe, died in May of 1984.
Born September 8, 1946 in Reading, he was a son of the late James H. and Violet C. (Lanza) Rowe.
He was a graduate of Wyomissing High School, Graceland University, Lamoni, IA and University of Vermont, Burlington, VT.
Jim served as Director of Operations for Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream from 1983 to 1993. After leaving Ben and Jerry's he branched out into Contract Design, working for U.S. Food Service Contract Design, Stafford-Smith Company and Paramount Supply as a National Contract Manager before retiring in 2010. He was consistently recognized among the General Contractors for Best Projects in the U.S. and was awarded Highest Achiever several years in a row with U.S. Food Service.
He was a fourth degree honored charter member of the Knights of Columbus. He was an active member in Our Lady of the Skies, which included frequent attendance at daily Mass, Lector and Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, plus an active participant in the annual Project True Giving at the Base Chapel in Sumter, South Carolina. He was a Cursillista and was an active member of the Sumter Ultreya Group, as well as an active member of the Karol Wojtyla Study Group (KWSG), and was active in the Pope John II Catholic Study Group. He was a great friend to the poor and sick veterans that he served. He loved to encourage and lift the spirits of the caregivers of the veterans as well. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Jim is survived by his two daughters: Kelly, wife of M. Lynn Pettitt, Sumter, SC and Gina, wife of William G. Ness, Chicago, IL; his brother, Michael W. Rowe, Pennsville, NJ; and his first grandchild, due in January.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m.in Sacred Heart R.C. Church, West Reading. Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Aid to the Church in Need at www.churchinneed.org. or Mary Knoll Society at www.maryknollsociety.org. Edward J.
