James L. Rhoades, 78, of Oley, passed away on Wednesday, July 7, 2010 at 2:45 pm in the Reading Hospital and Medical Center, where he was a patient since Saturday.
He was the husband of Patricia A. (Feeney) Rhoades.
Born in Grier City, he was a son of the late George and Grace (Luckenbill) Rhoades.
He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War and was a member of Friedens Lutheran Church, Oley.
He was a 1950 Graduate of Tamaqua High School and received his B.S. degree from East Stroudsburg University in 1958. He later earned his M.A. degree from Kutztown University.
He was employed for 37 years as a Biology teacher at Oley Valley High School until retiring.
He was a past commander of American Legion Post #878, Oley and previously served on the Oley Valley Planning Commission. He was a past President of the Oley Valley Teacher's Association.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a Son: James W. Rhoades of Temple and 2 Daughters: Pamela A., wife of Jeff Smith of Robesonia and Kristina A., wife of Harry Connell of Lancaster. Also 2 Sisters: Marilyn Titus of Tamaqua and Diane Romano of Mt. Holly Springs. Also his Grandchildren: Bryce Rhoades; Gunnar Smith and Harley Smith. He is also survived by several Nieces and Nephews. He was predeceased by a Sister: Vivian Rhoades and a Grandaughter: Mia R. Smith.
A Memorial Service will be held in Friedens Lutheran Church, 1076 Memorial Highway, Oley, Pa. 19547 on Monday, July 12th at 1:00 pm. Interment will follow in Friedens Cemetery, Oley. Friends and Family may call on Monday from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the church at the address above.
