James N. Kauffman

James N. Kauffman of Lopez, (Sullivan County) died in his residence on December 25, 2017. He was born on September 23,1952, in West Reading, PA and was the son of Irene M. (Bensinger) Kauffman of Madison, Wisconsin and the late Nevin G. Kauffman.Â

Jim was a 1970 graduate of Blue Mountain High School and a 1983 graduate of Penn State with a degree in electrical engineering.  Jim started his engineering career with the U.S. Navy and later worked as a private contractor for companies throughout the United States.

He enjoyed listening to and playing music and had an extensive guitar collection. Jim had several hobbies including woodworking, wood burning, restoring vintage radios, astromony and geology.Â

In addition to his mother, James is survived by a daughter; Laura M., wife of David R. Hickman, and two granddaughters, Audrey J. and Elizabeth M. of California, MD, his former spouse and dear friend Elaine T. Kauffman, Mechanicsville, MD and three sisters:  Ellen (Randy) McFarlane, San Juan Capistrano, CA, Loraine (Roger) Pilgrim, and Donna (William) Dusso, both of Madison, WI. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held on Thursday evening, January 25, 2018, at 5:00 p.m. at the Burkey & Driscoll Funeral Home, Hamburg, followed by a memorial service at 6:00 p.m. Burial will be private in the Drehersville Cemetery.
