James J. Bross, Sr., 88, passed away on December 17, 2025. He was the beloved husband of Joan (Burkart) Bross and they shared over 64 years of marriage.
Born in Reading, he was the son of the late Margaret (Kelly) and Louis F. Bross, Sr. James graduated from Reading Catholic High School, and proudly served our country in the United States Army. He spent his career working for the Reading Railroad (later Conrail) retiring after 44 years.
James was a devoted member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Robesonia, and was an active member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a member of the Reading Company and Technical Historical Society, volunteering to give tours and write articles for their monthly publications. Since childhood, James was a passionate train enthusiast and spent many happy hours collecting model trains and building displays. He loved the Wildwood shore in the summers, walking the beach and collecting seashells. He enjoyed the Mummers parade on New Years Day, and trips to Disney World during the Christmas season. He was very proud of his six wonderful grandchildren who loved their PopPop dearly and loved spending time with him and his secret candy drawer.
He is also cherished as the best father in the world by his three children, James J, Jr., David (Noha) and Karen. And the best grandfather to Amelia, Julia, Sophia, Alex, Kyle and Raymond. He was predeceased by his brother L. Frederick Bross.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, December 29, 2025 at 11a.m. at St. Francis de Sales, 320 N. Church St, Robesonia, PA 19551, with entombment to follow in Gethsemane Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be in James' honor to the Reading Company Technical & Historical Society at P.O. Box 15143, Reading, PA 19612-5143.
