James S. Hafer, 75, of Port Orange, FL, passed away Thursday, January 27, 2022 following a four month illness.
Born September 21, 1946, in Reading, PA, he was the son of the late Ralph Stanley Hafer and Grace (Becker) Hafer.
After graduating from Reading High School, Jim worked many years in the shipping department at Berkshire Knitting Mills in Wyomissing. In the 70's he was employed as an elevator operator in the CNA Insurance building in downtown Reading. He often joked that his job "had its ups and downs!"
Jim loved the music of the 50s and 60s and often liked to entertain his fellow senior residents at Epiphany Manor in Port Orange where he resided until recently. He loved cars, the TV series Star Trek, and old movies. Jim was deeply spiritual and had a way of sharing the good news of the Gospel of Christ in his own unique fashion. Apart from this "holy boldness," he was otherwise known as a very private and gentle soul who was admired and loved by those who knew him best.
He is survived by his sister, Suzanne (Hafer) Oesterling (husband John) of Orlando, FL; niece, Lacey (McKnight) Hasson (husband Scott); great nephew, Aaron Hasson and twin great nieces, Savannah and Mackenzie Hasson of Winter Springs, FL.
A viewing will be held Friday, Feb 4, 2022 from 10 to 11 a.m. with services at 11 a.m. at Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., West Reading. Burial will follow at Forest Hills Memorial Park. Condolences may be expressed at www.kuhnfuneralhomes.com.
