James R. Guiles

James R. Guiles, 89 of Wyomissing, passed away, Thursday, November 10, 2016 in Berks Heim.

Married June 28, 1953, he was the husband of Jackie F. (Bensinger) Guiles for 63 years.

Born in his family's Wyomissing home, he was the son of the late Charles and Elsie (Putt) Guiles. James lived most of his life in the very house he was born.

James was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.

He was a 1945 graduate of Wilson High School.

James was a U.S. Navy veteran during World War II serving aboard the USS Midway since its commission. It was America's longest-serving aircraft carrier of the 20th century, from 1945 to 1992. He later would join the U.S. Army serving during the Korean Conflict.

He started his work career in Berkshire Knitting Mills, later working as a service technician for Addressograph-Multigraph for 15 years. James later worked at Brush Wellman, Inc. for 20 years, until his retirement.

In addition to his wife, James is survived by three daughters, Denise, wife of Tom Bertolet, Wernersville; Sharon Guiles, Ft. Lauderdale, FL; and Stacy Guiles, Wyomissing. One sister, Jean Stafford; two grandchildren, Benjamin Bertolet and Jennifer Bertolet Osmanaj, wife of Burim Osmanaj; and two great grandchildren; Lucas and Melina Osmanaj also survive him.

He was predeceased by two brothers; Donald and Gerald Guiles.

The Guiles family would like to thank Berks Heim, especially the staff from A2 and B3, for their loving care.

A memorial service will be held, Saturday, November 19, 2016, at 11:30 a.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Avenue, West Reading.
