James K. Evans

James King Evans, 90 of Oley, PA, son of the late Mary King Evans and James Rodger Evans, passed away at the Reading Hospital on April 19 2011, surrounded by his family.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Palma DiTommaso Evans, son Joseph DiTommaso Evans; husband of Angela R. Evans, daughters, Pamela Evans Kopel, wife of Thomas G. Kopel and Melissa R Evans. There are four grandchildren, Genevieve A. Kopel, Ashley Kopel Dietrich, Dr. Corey McCann and Mia Jayne Evans; and two step-grandchildren, Stephanie Scott and Gregory Maialetti.

James was an Army Air Corps Veteran of WWII, serving in the European Theater as a bomb sight specialist.

He graduated from Albright College in 1950 with a Bachelor of Science degree.

James was the owner of Excelsior Manufacturing Company in Hyde Park, until his retirement and was an inventor holding several patents.

He was an innovator with many interests; photography, hunting, fishing and archery. He planted and tended a small vineyard and made his own wine. He loved his many dogs most especially, Samantha who survives him. He loved historical dwellings, having restored two 19th century homes, and reconstructing an 1800's Plank House all for his family in the Oley Valley.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday April 23, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. in the Saint Catharine of Siena Chapel, 2427 Perkiomen Ave, Reading with Monsignor Ed Domin officiating. Friends and family may gather at 12:30. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to the charity of their choice or Saint Catharine of Siena parish.
