Dr. James J. Diamond, 85, of Reading, passed away November 15, 2010, in St. Joseph Hospital.
He was the husband of Patricia A. (Edwards) Diamond, Reading. He was predeceased by his first wife, Therese M. (Birkenstock) Diamond who died March 26, 1995.
Born in Philadelphia, he was a son of the late William and Eleanor (McGuigan) Diamond.
He was a US Navy veteran serving during WWII and Korean War.
Dr. Diamond was a graduate of St. Joseph's University and Temple University Medical School. Dr. Diamond was a surgical resident at St. Joseph's Hospital from 1953-1958. He was also a resident in Oncology Surgery at Sloan Kettering Hospital, New York City and was a surgeon for many years at St. Joseph's Hospital.
He was an active member of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, West Reading, where he sang in the church choir.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, James J. Diamond, husband of Maureen McCarthy-Diamond, Portland, OR and Francis X., husband of Cindy Diamond, Southhampton; three step-sons, Charles Manula, Pottsgrove, Cyril Manula, Daytona Beach, FL and Andrew Manula at home; three step-daughters, Mary Ann Kosciolek, Allentown, Suzanne Manula, San Francisco and Patricia Lebo, Telford; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by two sons, Joseph Diamond and Gregory and two brothers, William Diamond and Rev. Joseph Diamond S. J.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10:15 a.m. in Sacred Heart R.C. Church, 8th and Franklin Street, West Reading. Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery. Friends may call Friday from 9 to 10 a.m. in the church. Contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 6217 Reading, PA 19610. Edward J.
