James G. Connor, Jr., 96, of Reading, passed away July 30, 2023, at The Villa of St. Elizabeth.
He was the widower of Jane L. (Falter) Connor, who died in 2020.
Born in Reading, he was a son of the late James G., Sr., and Ruth (Himmelberger) Connor.
He was a graduate of Reading High School and McCann's Business School.
James served our nation proudly and valiantly in the US Marines. After graduating High School, he reported to basic training at Paris Island, South Carolina, and Camp Lejeune in, North Carolina where he trained as an infantryman. He was assigned to the 1st Marines, 1st Marine Division, 2nd Battalion, Headquarters Company. He shipped out from Pedleton in 1944 for the Pacific Theater, landing at Pavuvu in the Russell Islands for additional training for an amphibious assault on Peleliu. He received a Purple Heart for a mortar wound on the first day's assault at Peleliu and later at Okinawa. James mustered out of service in March 1946 at Great Lakes, Illinois.
After the end of each day working as a financial advisor for various companies working into his 80's, James would enjoy playing golf with his buddies, playing tennis, and snow skiing.
James is survived by two daughters, Robin, wife of Richard Gehret, Fleetwood, and Erin, wife of Jimmy DeWald, Boise, ID; and three grandchildren: Eric DeWald, Nicholas Fonte, and Malia Silfies.
He was predeceased by his daughter, Bridget Louise Connor in 2010, and three siblings: Robert Fishburn Connor, Barbara Lee Connor, and Patricia Ann Connor.
