James A. Carmichael

James A. Carmichael, 90, of Wyomissing, formerly of Whitfield, died January 19, 2013, in The Highlands at Wyomissing.

His wife Barbara J. (Bergendahl) Carmichael died June 6, 2000. They had been married for 54 years.

Born in St. Paul, MN, he was the son of the late Arthur J. and Anna (Cosgreff) Carmichael.

James was a graduate of Roosevelt High School in Yonkers, N.Y.

He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving as a Technical Sergeant in Pearl Harbor during WWII.

James was employed for 20 years by Berks County Motors. In 1965, with the help of Chrysler, he purchased the dealership and became president and owner of Suburban Dodge, Inc. James was honored to be elected to the Philadelphia Zone Dodge Dealers National Advisory Conference and served from 1976 to 1978. He also served as president of the Philadelphia Zone Dodge Dealers Advertising Group; president of the Berks County Young Republicans Club, 1954-1955 and secretary of the club for 15 years; member of the board of directors of Berks County Chamber of Commerce, 1969-1972; chairman of the PA State Police Inspection Safety Meetings, 1971-1984; representative of the Pennsylvania Auto Association, 1984, and served on their executive committee board 1986-1990; president of the Reading/Berks Auto Trade Association; board member of the Reading Phillies and a member of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association.

He was a member of Calvary Reformed Church, Reading.

He is survived by his daughter, Kathleen C. "Kasey", wife of Richard E. Angstadt, Shillington and two brothers: Paul E., husband of Mary Lou Johnson, Aurora, CO and Frank, husband of Joni Johnson, Fort Myers Beach, Fl. Also surviving are three nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be Friday at 1 p.m. in Calvary Reformed Church U.C.C., 640 Centre Ave., Reading, PA 19601. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family in Charles Evans Cemetery. Contributions may be made to Highland Endowment Fund, 2000 Cambridge Ave, Wyomissing, PA 19610 or to Calvary Reformed Church U.C.C. at the above address. Edward J.
