James A. Brobst

James A. Brobst, 93 of Hamburg died August 28th in the Laurel Center, Tilden Township. He was the husband of Carolina (Wink) Brobst. Jim was born in Allentown and was the son of the late Albert B. and Lila E. (Adams) Brobst. He was the owner and operator of Jim's Sporting Shop for 16 years in Schuylkill Haven. After that he was the manager of the Hamburg State Store for 20 years, retiring in 1980. Jim was a member of the First United Church of Christ, Hamburg and a former consistory member. He was an Air Force Veteran of WWII. Jim was a Past Master of Vaux Lodge #406 during 1972 and also a life member of the Lodge. He was also a life member of the following: Hamburg Fish and Game Association, American Legion Post 637, Hamburg, N.R.A and a founding member of the Hamburg Rifle and Pistol Club. He was also the last surviving member of the Hamburg Geritol Hiking Club. In addition to his wife, Jim is survived by a sister, Esther (Brobst) wife of Mark Seaman, Bern Township and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Marion (Brobst) Graff and a brother Paul Brobst. Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Berks County, 1801 North 11th Street, Reading, PA 19604 or the First United Church of Christ, 3rd and Pine Street, Hamburg, PA 19526. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11:00 AM from the Burkey & Driscoll Funeral Home, Inc., Hamburg. A viewing will be held on Thursday evening from 7:00 to 8:30 PM and on Friday from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. A Masonic service will be held on Thursday evening at 8:00 PM.
