James Crawford Best Sr.

James Crawford Best, Sr., 80, of Leesport, passed away on January 30, 2021, at Country Meadows, Wyomissing. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Ann (Reider) Best, who resides at the home that James crafted and built himself.

Born in Reading, Pennsylvania, James was the son of the late Dr. Crawford James Best and Juliet (Havy) Best. James was a 1958 graduate of Central Catholic High School and attended Kutztown State College. He then went on to serve in the Navy during the Vietnam War.

James was later self-employed as an electrician for 12 years, then worked for Dana Corporation for over 20 years, followed by Denny's Electric for several years. In his free time, he loved to give back to the community by using his handyman skills. He was a long-time member of the Bern Township Lions Club and was an instrumental part in maintaining the Bern Township pool.

When James wasn't working around the house or fixing up the pool, he enjoyed traveling all over the country in his motor home. Some destinations that James adventured to include most of the continental US, Alaska, Nova Scotia, and several provinces in Canada. One of his all-time favorite trips was the drive from PA to Key West, Florida with his wife and family, as his children were growing up.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his three children: Christina M. Kistler, wife of Thad, Wyomissing; James C. Best, Jr., "Jamie," husband of Melissa Fisher, Leesport; and Michael P. Best, husband of Jennifer (Klikus) Best, Leesport. He is also survived by one sister, Suzanna Ricci, Frederick, MD, and four grandchildren: Savannah Kistler, Brock Kistler, Tyler Best and Hunter Best. He was predeceased by one sibling, Thirza Best.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 13, 2021, from 10:00am to 11:00am. Services are to follow at 11:00am. All events will take place at the Kuhn Funeral Home in West Reading, PA.
