Jack P. Doorlay, a retired executive with Avon Products, Inc., died after a long illness on January 28, 2010; he was 84 years old.

He was the husband of Susan (Fencil) Doorlay, Mohnton. His first wife, Irene E. (Forry) Doorlay, died in October 1992.

Born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, he was educated in Germany and also lived in several foreign countries before coming to the United States in 1952. He spoke seven languages.

He worked for six years in the International Division of the former Textile Machine Works and joined Avon Products of New York in 1958, where he worked for 25 years both in the New York headquarters as well as overseas. He retired in 1983 and then took a position as Director of Operations with Fairfield Medical Products in Stamford, Ct.

Mr. Doorlay was very active in volunteer work and served as Commander of the Darien Power Squadron and later as District Commander. He is also a past Commander of the Stamford Flotilla of the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary. He served as Past President of the Darien Community Concert Association, as Harbor Commissioner and Tax Counselor for the elderly.

In 1993 he moved back to Berks County and served two terms as Commander of Flotilla 11-02 of the Coast Guard Auxiliary. He also continued his volunteer work as Tax Counselor for the elderly. Mr. Doorlay actively participated in the masters track and field program and won 197 medals, over 170 of which were gold. He was nationally ranked in the pole vault, long jump, triple jump and javelin throw.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Regina A., wife of Peter Schwarz, Munich, Germany and a stepson, Andrew John, husband of Sara Herold, Bloomington, Ind.; and two grandchildren, Anja Irene Schwarz and Anna Herold.

Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Ave., West Reading, PA 19611. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park. Friends may call Tuesday from 10 to 11 a.m. in the funeral home.
