Jacinto Matias Mendoza

Jacinto Matías Mendoza, 76, passed away on June 19, 2024 in West Reading. He is survived by his beloved wife, Elsie Rodríguez Rosado and by six children: Jason, Josette, Raquel, Angèlica, Rebecca and Roberto; eleven grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

He was born in Añasco, Puerto Rico, one of ten children of the late Francisco Matías and Carmen Mendoza. At age 16, Jacinto left his small coastal town, for the Big Apple. He taught himself English, and always sought creative ways of pursuing his interests. Jacinto was a self-taught entrepreneur, an artist at heart, and a factory worker. He worked for over thirty years in the pharmaceutical industry, in the United States and Puerto Rico.

Jacinto was passionate about singing and enjoyed music in all its forms, from the romantic boleros to the more contemporary reguetón. Anyone who knew Jacinto witnessed how kind, hardworking, friendly and fun he was. He never wasted an opportunity to tell a joke.

Jacinto was a humble man, who loved deeply, gave generously and enjoyed life vehemently. He lived his life his way and put his children and family first, until his last breath.

In his own words: "no es amar, es demostrarlo, es mantenerlo y sacarle copia a todo"; is not just loving, it's showing it, is cultivating it, and is photocopying it", reproducing it and sharing it all around.

Jacinto, "Chinto", "Jason", "Hun", "Jaso", "Matías" "Papi", "Pá", "Abuelo" will live in the hearts of all those whose lives came through him and all those whose lives he made better with his kindness.
