Irwin R. Grimes, 84, of Spring Township, died January 2, 2009 in his residence.
He was the husband of Ruth A. (Kern) Grimes.
Born in Sinking Spring, he was a son of the late Irvin K. and Emma H. (Gerhart) Grimes.
He was a graduate of Sinking Spring High School.
Irwin was a member of St Ignatius Roman Catholic Church, Whitfield.
He was past Commander, Quarter Master, and life member of the Sinking Spring VFW Post 6150 and also a life member of the Sinking Spring Fire Company.
Irwin was self-employed for 35 years as the owner and operator of Grimes Distributing Company, Sinking Spring. After retirement, he continued to work for BCIU as a bus driver for 10 years last working in 1993. He continued to work part time until 2007.
He was a United States Navy veteran during WWII.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Glenn I. Grimes, Columbia; a daughter, Brenda G. Grimes, Shoemakersville; and a brother, Robert Grimes, West Lawn.
He is also survived by four grandchildren, Michael and Kelly Quirin; Molly Marquardt, and Mark Keller.
Other survivors include four great-grandchildren.
Irwin was predeceased by a brother, Gene Grimes.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10:00 a.m. in St Ignatius Roman Catholic Church, 2810 St. Albans Dr. Whitfield, PA 19609. Entombment will be in Gethsemane Mausoleum. Friends may call Wednesday 6:00-8:00 p.m. in the Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Ave., West Reading PA 19611.
