Irene K. Lupco

Irene K. (Kokura) Lupco, 77, of Phoebe Berks Village and formerly of West Lawn, died May 4, 2010 in the Phoebe Berks Health Care Center.

She was married October 25, 1956 to the late John J. Lupco, Sr., who died May 7, 2000.

Born in Nesquehoning, Carbon County on July 25, 1932, she was a daughter of the late John and Anna (Mandulich) Kokura.

She was a 1950 graduate of Nesquehoning High School and a graduate of Allentown Business School.

Irene was a member of St. Herman's of Alaska Church, Shillington, where she was a founding member and also served on church council.

She was employed 15 years as a medical secretary with Acutech Medical Labs, Reading.

Irene later worked 15 years as a clerk with PennDot, Temple, before retiring in 1994.

Following her retirement, she continued working part-time as a library aide at the West Lawn Library.

She is survived by two children: John J., husband of Elaine A. (Cusatis) Lupco of Spring Township and Michael E., husband of Jodi L. (Gilbert) Lupco of Westminster, Maryland.

There are also three grandchildren: Alex J., Taylor E. and Tori L.

Other survivors include two sister-in-laws: Martha Kokura and Mary Kokura and three nieces: JoAnne Shea, Mary Ann Davis, Suzanne Horowski and a nephew David Miller.

She was predeceased by five siblings: Paul, Anna, Mary, John and her twin brother, Joseph.

A special thank you to her close friend, Carol Harvan Griffith who cared for Irene in her final days.

An Orthodox Funeral Service will be celebrated Saturday at 10am in St. Herman's of Alaska Orthodox Church, 133 West Broad St., Shillington, PA 19607. A viewing will be held Friday 6:30 - 8:00 pm in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., West Reading. A Parastas (memorial service) will begin Friday at 7:00 pm. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Shillington.
