Irene J. (Gioffre) Hannum, 73, passed away surrounded by her loving family on November 6, 2015, in her Oley residence.
She was the wife of Alfred J. Hannum. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on May 31.
Born in Wilmington, DE, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Freda (Blizzard) Gioffre.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children: Christopher M., husband of Deborah Hannum, Oley; Elizabeth Hannum, West Reading; Daniel A., husband of Melissa Hannum, Oley; and Mark J., husband of Sara Hannum, Fleetwood. There are nine grandchildren: Emily, Patrick, Nicholas, Grace, Caroline, Madison, Jacob, Grant, and Annie; and one great-granddaughter, Blake Ashley Hannum.
Siblings include: Joseph, husband of Marge Gioffre, Wilmington, DE; Lucille, wife of Bill Eyre, Avondale; Ralph, husband of Audrey Gioffre, Wilmington, DE; Marion, wife of Jim Buddo, Wake Forest, NC; George, husband of JoAnne Gioffre, Wilmington, DE; Dr. Dominic, husband of Eileen Gioffre, Wilmington, DE; William, husband of Linda Gioffre, Newark, DE; Frank Gioffre (deceased) and Barbara, wife of Gary Giannone; Elizabeth, wife of Bob Beste, Greenville, DE; and Deborah Gioffre, Wilmington, DE. Sisters-in-law Jude, wife of Christopher Carr, Ogden, PA; Maryanne Unangst, Newtown Square; and Linda Hannum, widow of Robert, also survive her.
Irene was a graduate of Ursuline Academy, and went on to earn a degree as an RN at Fitzgerald Mercy Hospital School of Nursing. She was employed as a registered nurse for over twenty years at Community General Hospital and continued at St. Joseph's Hospital before retiring in 2005.
Irene played in the Tuesday women's golf league at Golden Oaks, and the women's county golf tournaments. She loved art, was a talented painter, and enjoyed taking classes at the Goggle Works.
Above all else, family was most important to her. She cherished her summers in Avalon, NJ and gathering with her family for Sunday dinners.
The Hannum family would like to thank the wonderful team at Caring Hospice, especially Rev. Barry Moyer, Karen Flammer, Robin Little, Mary Kreitz, and Bonnie Weeast. A special thank you goes to Jessica Gordon for her gentle and loving care. Also, thank you to Dana and all of the Visiting Angels for all of their help.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, November 11, 2015, at 11 a.m. in St. Columbkill Roman Catholic Church, 200 Indian Spring Road, Boyertown. Burial in Friedens UCC Cemetery, Oley will be private. A viewing will be held Tuesday from 5-8:30p.m. and Wednesday from 9-11a.m, both in the church.
