Inge Hunter

Inge Hunter (Zimmermann), 86 years old of Reading, Pennsylvania, passed away on Thursday, May 1, 2025, in the care of the Reading Hospital. Inge was a much-loved mother, wife, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to many. Inge was the widow of Carl F. Hunter, who died January 15, 2004. They were married for 44 years at the time of his death. Inge was also predeceased by her brothers Wolfgang and Michael Zimmermann of Germany.

Inge was born March 10, 1939, in Sienhachenbach, Germany to the late Hans and Gertrud (Dahm) Zimmermann. She was their only daughter and the third of four children. After living through World War II, she attended Dental Assistant school in Rheinland-Pfalz Germany. While working at the Ramstein dental clinic, she met Carl, who was stationed there. They were married at the Ramstein AB chapel on April 4, 1959, and soon after she accompanied Carl back to the United States to begin their new life there.

Their first stop was Reading, Pennsylvania to meet Carl's family. Then, for the next 28 years they moved to wherever the Air Force sent them; North Dakota, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Florida, Texas and then back to Germany. Upon Carl's retirement from the Air Force, they returned to Florida and for the next 35 years they enjoyed life near family and friends and spending time at their "Hutte" in Virginia. Inge and Carl traveled extensively during their marriage, visiting many locations on four of the seven continents.

Inge was a dedicated wife and mother. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed baking German specialties at Christmas time. Inge was an excellent seamstress and quilter and loved to knit and crochet. Her hand knitted wool socks are well worn by family members in numerous countries. She was active in many knitting circles in Florida, Virginia and Pennsylvania, making blankets, scarves, hats, and other knitted items for those in need.

Her memory will be treasured by her four children, Michele L. Newton (Hunter) and husband Hubert A. Newton Jr of Covington, VA; Carl F. Hunter Jr of Clearwater, Fl; Thomas M. Hunter and husband Eric W. Johanson III of Reading, Pa, and Kim A. Froger (Hunter) and husband Samuel Froger of Brittany France, her 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Inge is also survived by her siblings; Bernd Zimmermann, Klaus Olms and Ursula Adler and their families, all living in Germany.

Eternal Love

God's Love is eternal

We have nothing to fear,

No matter the problem

He'll always be near.

We can't understand

The reason sometime,

But eventually we find

The rhythm and rhyme.

For his greater plan

Of our lives on this earth,

There's a reason for all things

From the time of our birth.

If our love remains constant

With faith and with hope,

Our God will reward us

And teach us to cope –

Til the day our life's over

And we find release,

And we journey to heaven

To tranquility and peace
