Ida Vanino Orr

Ida Vanino Orr, 88, passed away on February 3, 2025. She was the beloved wife of Gerald H. Orr. They shared sixty interesting, challenging, and equally loving years together.

Born in Reading, she was raised in the house her father (Herman Vanino) built using the stone masonry techniques he imported from Northern Italy (Paluzza). Her mother (Pearl Vanino) grew up on a traditional Penna. Dutch farm near Kutztown. Ida graduated from Wilson Senior High School. She earned her RN at Reading Hospital in 1957, her BS in Nursing from University of Pennsylvania in 1964, and her Master's Degree in Nursing from Villanova University in 1985. She was Professor of Nursing at Reading Area Community College from 1979-2001 and served as Assistant Director of the RN program. Ida was an artist (acrylic, watercolor, ink, pastels), a poet, and loved to journal for artistic and spiritual discovery.

She was a member of three arts organizations: Berks Art Alliance, Art Plus Gallery, and Berks Filmmakers. A core part of Ida's spiritual development was the Amber Light Circle, a group of spiritualists based in Berks County that originated in the 1970s. Her family was her pride, joy, and source of deep meaning. She loved watching her children grow from both close and afar.

Ida's memory will guide and encourage her children: Mark Orr, Julie Arencibia, and Cheryl Ramberger; her grandchildren: Bianca Orr, Karen Hardy, Sarah Arencibia, and Sophia Arencibia; as well as her great-grandchildren: Cassandra Hardy, and Miranda Hardy. Her loving brother Ermanno Vanino passed away in 2022.

The life celebration for Ida will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at 12 p.m. at Kuhn Funeral Home, West Reading. Memorial donations can be made in Ida's memory to Alley Cat Rescue, www.saveacat.org.
