Ida C. Glick, widow of Pastor John L. Glick, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 4, 2009. She died at her home in Oley Township. She would have been 93 years old on August 20. She was born in Morgantown on August 20, 1916, a daughter of the late Jacob and Rebecca (Mast) Kurtz.
She graduated from Eastern Mennonite High School in Harrisonburg, Virginia and received her RN degree from Lancaster General Hospital in 1938. She worked as a nurse at St. Joseph's Hospital and as a public health nurse.
At the age of 16, she made a deep and personal commitment to Jesus Christ. She spent the rest of her life fulfilling that commitment in her role as mother, nurse, pastor's wife, caregiver and friend.
She was a faithful member of the Ark Bible Chapel in Woodchoppertown, which she was so instrumental in founding along with her late husband. For many years she hosted regular Bible Study in her home every Tuesday evening.
Ida was a familiar face at Glick's Greenhouse where she spent many days planting seedlings and sharing her faith and love.
She is survived by her children: Lois Ann Hostetter and husband, John of Ocean City, NJ; Karl and wife Charlotte of Oley; Rebecca Benner and husband Charles of Leola; John Andrew and wife Martha Jean of Reading; David and wife Beth of Oley; Mukund Bhuta and wife Charu of Bridgewater, NJ and Sam Bhuta and wife Betty of Raleigh, NC. Also 17 Grandchildren and 28 Great Grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a randson, Adrian Benner.
She is also survived by siblings: Stephen Kurtz and wife Mabel; Susanna, widow of John Umble; Linda, widow of Joseph Bush; Fannie, wife of Thomas Yoder and Martha, widow of Wayne Stoltzfus. Two siblings: Omar Kurtz and Anna Lois Umble preceded her in death.
Ida's Funeral Service will be held in Oley Valley Mennonite Church, 1571 Memorial Highway, Oley, Pa. 19547 on Saturday at 11:00 am. Interment will be in the church cemetery. A viewing will be held on Friday Evening from 7:00-9:00 pm in the Ark Bible Chapel, 88 Woodchoppertown Road, Boyertown, Pa. 19512 and on Saturday from 9:00-11:00 am in the Oley Mennonite Church.
Memorial Contributions to benefit the Christian Counseling Center, Atlantic City, NJ, may be made payable to and mailed to the Ark Bible Chapel at the address above.
