Howard Ben Bachl, 88, of 407 Reading Avenue, West Reading, died March 26th at 2:40 am in ManorCare Health Services, West Reading, where he had been since June 27, 2003.
He was the widow of Rita L. (Cataldo) Bachl, who died August 25, 1999.
Born in Mohnton, he was a son of the late Maximillian and Crecenz (Hacker) Bachl. Bachl was a member of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, West Reading.
He was the owner for 44 years of the Bachl Grocery Store at 301 West Buttonwood Street, Reading, retiring in 1977.
Bachl was a 1933 graduate of Reading High School.
He was a life member of the Patriotic Sons of America and the 1936 Vice-President of the Washington Camp #212.
In 1930 he was honored for 6 years of service to the Reading Eagle Circulation Department.
Bachl is survived by two daughters, Dr. Bonita L. Bachl of South Orange, New Jersey, and April A. (Bachl) Hernley of West Reading.
Other survivor include two sisters, Anna (Bachl) Kline of Wyomissing and Emily Bachl of Portland, OR.
There is also a granddaughter, Ann Marie Hernley of West Reading.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10am in Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, West Reading. Viewing Wednesday 8:30 - 9:30 am in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., West Reading. Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery, Muhlenberg Township. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Sacred Heart R.C. Church, PO Box 6217, Wyomissing, Pa 19610 or to The Salvation Army, PO Box 1099 Reading, Pa 19603.
