Herbert L. Walborn, 85, of Temple, died March 20th at 8:35pm in ManorCare Health Services, Muhlenberg Township, where he had been since October 28, 2004.
He was the husband of Thelma M. (Kirschman) Walborn.
Born in Reading, he was a son of the late John and Emma (Keagy) Walborn.
He was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, Laureldale.
Walborn was an Air Force Veteran of WWII.
He was a graduate of Muhlenberg High School.
Walborn was employed over 40 years by American Water Works Company Inc., Manager of the Muhlenberg System from 1949 thru 1958. He was later transfered to Williamsport as manager of the Water and Sewer systems.
Walborn was then transfered to Western Pa to manage the Westmoreland System, the largest water authority in Pennsylvania, serving five counties.
He was responsible for the construction of the largest artificial reservoir in the Eastern United States, it can be seen on any map of Pennsylvania as the Beaver Run Reservoir in Western Pennsylvania.
Walborn was promoted to President of th Municipal Management Divison of American Water Works Company in 1975 while stationed in Greensburg. He was responsible for the management of some 14 water and sewer authorities.
In 1969 he moved his office to Hershey at the same thime he became President of the Pa Municipal Authorities Association which consisted of some 500 water authoroties, before retiring in 1985.
He was a life member and past secretary of the American Water Works Assoication.
Walborn was also a life member of Puritan Lodge #740 F & AM.
He is also survived by a son, Robert L. husband of Linda A. (Carl) Walborn of Oley.
Other survivors include two grandsons, Matthew R. Walborn and Jason H. Walborn.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Kathleen Walborn, who died December 1948.
Memorial Services will be Thursday at 1:00 pm in Calvary Lutheran Church, 1009 Elizabeth Ave., Laureldale. Visitation Thursday Noon until time of service. Burial will be private in Laureldale Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Humane Society 1801 North 11th Street, Reading, Pa 19604. Walter R. Christ Funeral Home, Inc., Laureldale is in charge of arrangements.
