Herbert C. Vandegrift, 85, formerly of Temple died June 7, 2008 in Berks Heim, where he had been a resident for the past three years.
He was the husband of Mary R. (Adams) Woerner Vandegrift.
Born in Philadelphia, he a son of the late Franklin G. and Lottie M. (Michaels) Vandegrift.
He was a laborer for Reading Railroad for 35 years until his retirement.
Herbert was a Navy Seaman First Class serving during World War II.
He loved to sing and had a real interest in anything to do with trains and railroads. Herbert was a lifetime member of the Temple Fire Co. and the Pike Twp. Athletic Association.
Herbert was a devoted father and grandfather. He is survived by two daughters, Janet M. (Vandegrift) Cataldi, Adamstown and Brenda L. (Woerner) Breneiser, Temple and one step-son, Marvin R. Woerner, Temple. There is one brother, Franklin G. Vandegrift, Boynton Beach, FL. Five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren also survive him.
Services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. in Walter R. Christ Funeral Home, Inc., Laureldale. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park. Friends may call Thursday from 9 to 10 a.m. in the funeral home.
