Henry Franklin Conrad, 83, of West Reading, died March 25, 2012 in the Lutheran Home at Topton.

He was the husband of Eleanor (DeLong) Conrad.

Born in Reading, he was the son of the late Nevin Stapleton Conrad and Maggie Mertz Conrad.

Henry graduated from Southern Junior High School in 1943 and Reading Senior High School in 1946. He earned his B.S. in Business Administration and Accounting from Temple University in 1950, where he was a member of the Diamond Concert and Marching Bands and was a life member of Sigma Pi fraternity.

Henry served in the U.S. Army as a finance clerk.

Henry worked for the Reading Hospital where he organized the Appalachian Chapter of the Hospital Financial Management Association and served as its first president. He served as a National Director of HFMA from 1963 to 1967. Henry was comptroller for Hahnemann Medical College and Hospital, Philadelphia. He concluded his career as assistant controller for St. Joseph Hospital, Reading retiring in 1983.

Henry was a member of the American College of Hospital Administrators, the Hospital Association of Pennsylvania, the Administrator's Club of Central Pennsylvania, and the Accounting Committee of Capital Blue Cross.

Henry served on the Wyomissing Area School Board and was a member of the West Reading Borough Council. He was vice president of the Berks County Earned Income Bureau. He also served on an Advisory Committee for the Social Security Administration concerning Medicare and on the faculty for hospital financial management institutes.

He was a member of Salem (Spangsville) UCC, Oley, where he served as a Deacon. He was an elder of St. James UCC in West Reading, and Moderator of the Reading Association of the United Church of Christ. He transferred to Salem, UCC in 1993.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Louise, wife of Thomas S. Piper, Laurel, MD; Nancy, wife of John J. Graham, Bernville and Carol, wife of John A. Wondowski, Wyomissing. Six grandchildren, Jennifer Mermod, Constance Kedzierski, Rachel Graham, Gail Wondowski, Ann Wondowski and Austin Wondowski; and two great-grandchildren also survive him.

Henry was predeceased by one sister, Grace C. Bair, wife of Dr. Robert C. Bair, Wellsboro, PA.

Services will be Thursday, March 29th 10:30 a.m.in Salem UCC, 307 Covered Bridge Road, Oley, PA 19547 with gravesite services to follow. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 28th at Kuhn Funeral Home, 739 Penn Ave., West Reading, PA. or from 10:00 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the service at Salem, UCC.
