Helen E. Ravel

Helen E. Ravel, 94, of Wyomissing, passed away on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at Country Meadows, Wyomissing. She was the widower of Donald M. Ravel, who passed away in 2012. Helen and Donald were married in Elkton, MD on May 22, 1950, and celebrated over 62 years wonderful years together.

Born at home in West Reading on March 13, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Alois and Helen (Kolat) Auer.

Helen was a graduate of Wilson High School Class of 1949. In 1973 she graduated cum laude and received the Ellen Frei Gruber Award alumni service award from Alvernia College. After completing courses at Penn State University, Millersville University, Carlow College, and De Sales University, she was awarded a Master's Equivalency from the Commonwealth of PA.

Helen was passionate about education. Her retirement from the Conrad Weiser School District in 1995 followed 20 years teaching second grade at Conrad Weiser West Elementary in Womelsdorf, working with outstanding dedicated and caring educators. She was a life member of Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees (PASR), Pennsylvania State Education Association (PSEA) and Berks County Association of School Retirees (BCASR). She was a past president of the Berkshire Heights Elementary PTA and past president of the Western Berks Association of School Retirees (WBASR).

Helen taught and coached swimming for many years. She taught at Wilson School District and Governor Mifflin Summer swim programs. She coached the Shillington summer age group team in the 1970's, was the first coach of the Wilson School District's Age Group Team, and was the assistant coach of the Wilson High School's Girls Team in 1974-75.

She enjoyed traveling, reading non-fiction, learning about nature and, above all, socializing with friends and family.

Left to treasure her memory are her sons; Michael Ravel (Debbie), Bruce Ravel (Cynthia), and Thomas Ravel (Linda); six grandchildren; seven great- grandchildren; and sister Eloise Blake (Harry) of Roswell, NM.
