Helen Monica (Bross) Nanasko, 87, formerly of Millmont, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on Saturday, August 2, 2014 in Berks Heim; where she had resided for the past six years.

Her husband of 38 years, Joseph S. Nanasko, died in 1986.

Born December 18, 1926 in Reading, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Mary E. (Banovcin) Bross.

She worked for Berkshire Knitting Mills, the Notions department of Nichols, and Ciotti's Bakery.

Helen was a member of St. Anthony of Padua R.C. Church, Millmont.

She was a member of the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association.

Helen loved the outdoors, bus trips, playing Bingo, Scrabble and Yahtzee, dancing and listening to music, and taking family vacations to the beach. She was an accomplished seamstress; often hemming and mending garments for others once they realized her talents. She was a wonderful cook, known for her spaghetti sauce and halupki. She will be dearly missed.

She is survived by her two daughters: Mary L. Thompson, Mohnton; and Deborah S., wife of James DeVine, Grill. Five grandchildren: Matthew Thompson, fiance of Kristy Hoffa, Heidelberg Township; Michael, husband of Melissa Thompson, Wernersville; Kara (Thompson), wife of Alan Ulrich, Wyomissing; Kirk DeVine, Del Rio, TX; and Eric, husband of Amanda DeVine, Grill; four great-grandchildren: Emily Grace, Jillian Elizabeth, Mia Elizabeth, and Blake Michael; and several nieces and nephews also survive her.

Helen was predeceased by her brothers: Stephen and Paul J.; and her sisters: Anne and Mary T.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. in Gethsemane Chapel, 3139 Kutztown Rd., Laureldale. A viewing will be held Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Ave., West Reading. Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to American Diabetes Association, 3544 N.
