Helen Jane (Winters) Grim, 92, formerly of Fleetwood, passed away June 2, 2012, in Berks Heim. Helen was the wife of Ralph J. Grim, who died in October of 2002. Helen was born in Reading on April 5, 1920 and was the daughter of the late Mary (Parker) Winters and Chester M. Winters. Helen graduated from Reading High Night School in 1938. She first worked in her Grandfather Parker's seafood restaurant as a young girl and then worked at Berkshire Knitting Mills. She was a Layout Operator and retired from Western Electric in 1982.
Mom enjoyed knitting and other crafts but mostly she enjoyed spoiling her grandchildren. She loved the holidays and the many summer picnics at her home in Fleetwood. She was a former member of First Baptist Church of Reading where she taught Sunday School and is a member of Tabernacle Church in Kutztown.
Helen is survived by her son, Chester Winters husband of Rosemarie (Limpus) Winters and her daughter, Shirley (Grim) Eck wife of Dennis Eck. She was predeceased by her daughter Jean (Grim) wife of Roy Zettlemoyer. She is survived by a brother, Robert McCarthy, Exeter Township and a sister, Mary Ann Leonti, Shillington and was predeceased by her sister Ruth Winters and her brothers, John Winters and James Daley.
There are five grandchildren, Maria Winters-Smathers, Elizabeth (Eck) Delong, Sean Eck, Christopher Winters and Rebecca Zettlemoyer. There are 14 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Ave., West Reading, PA 19611. Burial will be in Charles Evans Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home. Online condolences may be recorded at www.kuhnfuneralhome.com.
