Helen (Eleni) Dalaveris (Vouyiatsis), a precious mother, adoring grandmother and great-grandmother, and a woman of deep faith, passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of her family on August 7, 2025 at the age of 102. She leaves behind a legacy of warmth, devotion, and kindness that touched everyone she encountered.
Helen was born in Ayia Paraskevi, Myteline, Greece in 1923, the daughter of Vasilios and Marianthe (Hadjipalaiologos) Vouyiatsis, enduring the many hardships of that period. She married James Dalaveris before emigrating to Reading, PA in 1955. In 1966, she lost her husband, but had the fortitude to raise her children alone under unimaginably, challenging circumstances.
Helen was the proud mother of three children: Dr. Louis Dalaveris, Laura Delp and her husband, John Delp and Marian Porcaro and her husband, Nicholas Porcaro, Jr. She was a constant source of guidance, encouragement, and unwavering support to her children, always placing their happiness and well-being above all else.
Helen's joy only grew as her family expanded. She was a devoted grandmother to the children of Nicholas and Marian: Nicholas Porcaro III of Breckenridge, Colorado, Christopher Porcaro of Miami, Florida and Alexa Vanino of York, PA. Her grandchildren brought her endless pride, and she delighted in every moment spent with them. Helen was also blessed with three great-grandchildren, Andrik, Alana, and Penelope, children of Alexa and husband Derek Vanino.
Helen had a lifelong passion for baking, especially the traditional Greek delicacies she lovingly prepared for family, friends, and her community. She loved volunteering at her church while working tirelessly for the Philoptochos Women's Organization, generously giving her time and talent to support events, celebrations, and those in need. Her spirituality was the quiet foundation of her life and she was a deeply faithful woman whose trust in God guided her every step.
In addition to baking, Helen loved cooking, gardening, needlepoint and weaving and always had delicious homemade meals prepared for her children and friends and loved being surrounded by her adoring family and treasured friends.
Helen will be remembered for her gentle heart, her warm and generous spirit, and the way she nurtured everyone around her with love, food, and faith. She leaves behind a family that is forever grateful for her example, and while Helen's loss leaves an enormous void in the lives of her children, they find comfort in knowing she is wrapped in the arms of her loving Lord and is at peace. Her kindness, wisdom, and grace touched all who knew her, and her memory will be treasured always.
A service will be held to honor Helen's life on Tuesday, August 12th at 1:00PM at Sts Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 1001 East Wyomissing Boulevard, Reading, PA. Family and friends will be received from 12-1:00 PM. Burial will follow at Charles Evans Cemetery, Reading.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Sts. Constantine & Helen Church in her memory.
Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home is honored to serve the Dalaveris family. Condolences may be written online at KuhnFuneralHomes.com.
