Helen I. Baird

Helen I. Baird, 95, of Wyomissing, died October 3, 2011 in the Reading Hospital. She was the wife of Leslie L. Baird.

Born in Wilkes Barre, she was the daughter of the late Carl H. and Marion P. (Murray) Ingraham.

Helen was a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, earning her Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education in 1938; she obtained her Master's Degree in Educational Counseling from Villanova University in 1976.

She was a teacher at Lansdowne Friends School and later a counselor for Swarthmore Elementary School.

Helen was a former president of the Burlington Women's Club, a former vice president of a P.E.O. chapter and a social service consultant when she resided in Southeastern, IA. She was a former president of Duke University Institute for Learning in Retirement, Durham, NC, and was active in many other charitable organizations. Helen was also instrumental in the establishment of Alvernia's Senior College program.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two children, Patricia B., wife of Ronald Dillon, Willow Street and James C., husband of Pamela, Plymouth Meeting; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Her daughter-in-law, Margaret Baird, Willow Grove also survives her. She was predeceased by her son, Leslie L. Baird, Jr.

A Memorial Service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in Atonement Lutheran Church, with a visitation starting at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to: Atonement Lutheran Church, 5 Wyomissing Blvd., Wyomissing, PA 19610.
