Helen Louise Althouse, 84 of Stroudsburg, Pa. died Sunday morning January 15th in her home in Labar Village. She was the loving wife of William D. Althouse Jr. who predeceased her. She and her late husband were formerly of Shoemakersville, Pa. Helen was born February 18, 1927, in Leesport , Pa. and was the daughter of the late Howard and Mary (Davis) Latshaw. She graduated from Kutztown High School and then worked as a telegrapher and station agent for the Reading Railroad. She was also a bookkeeper for Nat Gas, a sales clerk for Kuzan's in Shoemakersville and then for the Perry Golf Course, Shoemakersville. She was an avid golfer and golf fan. She served as a den mother for cub scouts and was active in the Reading Hospital Auxiliary. Helen is survived by her son, Kerry and his wife Mira of East Stroudsburg, four grandsons, Gregory, Jeffrey, Spencer and Travis; her sisters Joyce Durbin of Baltimore, Md. and Nettie Rothermel of Reading, Pa. She was predeceased by her sister Thelma O'Flaherty and brothers Wilber and Donald Latshaw. A visitation will be held at the Burkey & Driscoll Funeral Home, Inc., 40 S. 4th St., Hamburg on Saturday, January 21st, from 9:30 to 10:45AM. The memorial service will begin at 10:45AM. Burial will be in Gernant's Cemetery, Leesport, PA. Helen's niece, the Reverend Frances Merkel who is pastor of Christ UCC Church in Bath, Pa. will officiate.
