Hattie M. Wardman, 102, of Hamburg, passed away peacefully on Thursday evening. Born in Hamburg on April 25, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Carrie (Ely) and John Walters. Hattie graduated from Hamburg High School. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Hamburg, where she sang in the choir. She proudly served her country in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Hattie was a child care aide at the Hamburg Center for 14 years, retiring 1976. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary to Order of Independent Americans and the Hamburg Senior Citizens. Hattie was an expert needlework artist. She enjoyed baking pies in her spare time and loved her dogs. In addition to her parents, Hattie was preceded in death by sisters: Margaret Sauerwine and Kathryn Heffner and brothers: Eugene and John Walters. She was the last of her immediate family. Hattie is survived by a step-daughter, Joan K. Blum, of Emmaus; step-granddaughter, Lisa Singley; 3 step great-grandchildren; nieces: Helen Schaeffer, Mary Alice Heffner, Jill Gehringer; nephew, Eugene Walters; and several great nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 3rd at 10:00 a.m. at Burkey and Driscoll Funeral Home, Inc., 40 S. 4th St., Hamburg, with Pastor Burl Latshaw III officiating. A viewing will be held in the funeral home from 9:00 a.m. until time of service. Interment will follow in St. John's Cemetery, Hamburg. In lieu of flowers the family request contributions in Hattie's memory be sent to St. John's Church Memorial Fund, 99 Church St., Hamburg, PA 19526.
