Harry H. Dougherty, DMD, 92, of the Highlands at Wyomissing, died June 6 at 10:40 a.m. in Reading Hospital where he had been since May 31, 2006.
He was the husband of Magdalen D. (Doviak) Dougherty.
Born in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of the late Joseph M. and Mary Ann (Hirst) Dougherty.
Dougherty was a self employed Dentist at 645 Penn Ave. West Reading for 38 years, from 1958 until his retirement in 1996. Previously, he was the Dental Director of the Wyomissing Industries, which included Berkshire Knitting Mills, Narrow Fabric and Textile Machine Works.
He was a graduate of Allentown High School in 1932 and attended Muhlenberg College. A graduate of Temple University School of Dentistry in 1938, he served his internship at the Reading Hospital in 1938 and 1939. Dougherty also practiced Dentistry in Philadelphia from 1939 to 1940.
He was a Fellow of the American College of Dentists, International College of Dentists, the Acadamy of General Dentistry and the Pierre Fauchard Society. Dougherty was also a former President of the Berks County Dental Society and was a Trustee to the Pennsylvania Dental Association. He was also a member of The State Board of Dentistry.
He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, Reading.
Other survivors include two sons, Harry H, Jr., Great Falls, VA, and Dr. Mark G., Wyomissing and one daughter Carol D. (Dougherty) Van Schenkhof, Port Washington, NY. There is also one brother Joseph M., Sun City, Arizona and 3 grandchildren.
Services will be Thursday at 1:30 p.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., West Reading. Entombment will be in Gethsemane Cemetery. Contributions may be made to Shriner's Hospital for Children 3551 North Broad Street Philadelphia, PA 19140.
