Harriett F. Mattern, 88, of Wyomissing, died November 4, 2009 in The Reading Hospital and Medical Center.

Her husband, Richard I. Mattern died October 26, 1997.

Born in South Beloit, IL, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Grace F. (Dohlin) Freeman.

Harriett was a payroll clerk, employed by the city of Reading. She was a founding member of the RME Federal Credit Union (PAGODA) working many years as a board member, treasurer and volunteer. She retired in 1991.

She was a 63 year member of Calvary U.C.C., Reading, where she taught Sunday school for many years.

Harriett was a WWII veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy WAVES. She held membership in the Blue Mountain WAVES and The Women Veterans of Berks County.

She is survived by her three children: Laura I. Mattern, companion of William Creadon, Reading; Martha L., wife of Dennis Eubanks, Wyomissing and Rick F., husband of Lori Mattern, Reading. There are two siblings: Robert Freeman, Beloit, WI and Lorraine Solien, Janesville, WI. Four grandchildren: Karlyn, wife of Robert Wright; Matthew Huettemann, fiance of Gretchen Weiss; Jonathan Mattern and Jared Mattern; and three great-grandchildren: Emma, Addison, and Lucas also survive her.

She was predeceased by three siblings: Ken, Alice and Ed, Jr.

Services will be Sunday at 3 p.m. in Calvary U.C.C., Reading. Inurnment will be in Calvary U.C.C. Friends may call Sunday from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. in the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Calvary U.C.C. 640 Centre Ave., Reading PA 19601. Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., West Reading is in charge of arrangements.
