Harold S. Wiest

Harold S. Wiest, 87, of Oley Towship, died March 22, 2014 in St. Joseph Medical Center, Bern Township.

He was the husband of Mildred R. (Ruppert) Wiest, whom he married June 24, 1961.

Born August 1, 1926 in Reading, he was a son of the late James G. and Sallie K. (Shade) Wiest.

Harold was a 1944 graduate of Oley Valley High School.

He was self-employed, having owned and operated Wiest Carpenter Shop for 30 years, then working for Boyertown Planing Mill, where he retired from in 1993.

Harold served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He was a very active member of Frieden's Lutheran Church, Oley.

Harold was the President of Oley Fire Company for 25 years.

He was a mason with Kutztown Lodge for 60 years.

Harold enjoyed woodworking and was also very active in the Oley Legion for many years.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are several nieces and nephews.

Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in Frieden's Lutheran Church, 1076 Memorial Highway, Oley. A viewing will be held from 9:30 - 11 a.m. in the church. Burial will be in Frieden's Cemetery, Oley.
