Harold John Schlegel, 75, of Heath Avenue, Muhlenberg Township, died Feb. 6 at 9:25 p.m. in his residence.
He was the husband of Phyllis B. (Simon) Schlegel.
Born in Fleetwood, he was a son of the late Fernando and Maggie (Lamb) Schlegel.
Schlegel was employed for many years as a laborer by Edward Reider Construction Co., Wyomissing, retiring in 1991.
He was a member of Spring Valley Church of God, Muhlenberg Township.
Schlegel was an Army veteran of World War II.
He is also survived by a daughter, Debra G. (Schlegel) Fessett, Reading; and four sons: Harold J. Jr. and Robert J., both of Reading; Ryan J., Shillington; and Darrell J., New Schaefferstown.
Other survivors include a stepdaughter, Joyce E. (Hirneisen) Courtade, Alva, Fla., and two stepsons, Ernest G. Hirneisen Jr., Wernersville, and Kenneth M. Hirneisen, Camden, Ala.
Additional survivors include two sisters, Ruth (Schlegel) Acker, Kutztown, and Miriam (Schlegel) McClelland, Allentown; and three brothers: Stanley, Kutztown; Clarence, Laureldale; and David, Myerstown, Lebanon County.
There are also six grandchildren, five stepgrandchildren, six great-grandchildren and five stepgreat-grandchildren.
Services will be Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. in Walter R. Christ Funeral Home Inc., Laureldale. Burial will be in Berks County Memorial Gardens, Maidencreek Township.
