Harold L. High

Harold Llewellyn High, 85, of Cumru Township, died April 3, 2008 at 6:25 pm in the Mifflin Center, Curmu Township, where he had been a resident since June 1, 2002.

He was married November 20, 1948 to the late Eleanor Dorothy (Amrhein) High, who died December 30, 2002.

Born December 10, 1922 in Leesport, he was a son of the late Charles S. and Sallie Mae (Ettinger) High.

He was a graduate of Ontelaunee High School.

Harold was an Army Veteran of WWII.

He was very active with the Lincoln Park Fire Company, serving in many capacities over 54 years including Fire Chief.

Harold was also a past steward of the Lincoln Park Fire Company Social Hall and a member of the Fire Companies Veterans Association.

He was employed for over 40 years as a wood worker with Teledyne, retiring in 1985.

Harold was an avid Eagles and Phillies Fan.

He is survived by three children; Susan H. wife of Leo Zipf III of Mohnton; Michael C. husband of Sharon (Willard) High of Fallbrook, CA and Mark S. husband of Jami (Collins) High of Oceanside, CA.

Harold is also survived by two siblings; Bruce S. High of Temple and Abigail Rissmiller of Wernersville.

There are also four grandchildren; Allison L. (Zipf) wife of Michael J. Sobota of Sinking Spring; Kimberly M. (Zipf) wife of John P. Murgitroyde of Shillington; Ian S. High of Fallbrook, CA and Lindsay High of Oceanside, CA.

Harold was also very excited about the anticipated birth in July of his first great grandchild.

He was predeceased by a brother, Elwood High.

Services will be Tuesday at 11:00 am in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Ave., West Reading. A viewing will be held Monday 6:30 - 8:00 pm in the funeral home. Burial with Military Honors will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Exeter Township.
