Harold R. "Scoot" Johnson, 68, Cumru Township, passed away December 5, 2011 at 10:40 a.m. in his home.
Born in Reading, PA, he was the son of the late Robert and Mary (Cooper) Johnson.
He was the husband of Jeanne L. (Hall) Johnson. They were married 41 years in Reading, PA.
He was a 1961 graduate of Reading High School where he played football, track and baseball; he was also a graduate of Ursinus College and Alvernia College.
Harold was employed as a Human Resource Manager at the Glidden Paint Co., Narrow Fabric Industries and Goodwill Industries, retiring in 2007 due to illness.
He served on the Board of Directors of the Ironmen A.A., Y.M.C.A. P.A.L., Camp Fire, Neighborhood Housing and Family First Resource Center. He was an active member of St. James Chapel, Reading, PA, and a brother of Victor Lodge #73, Prince Hall free and accepted masons.
Harold was a Vietnam-Era veteran, serving in the USAF from 1961-1965 and has been a member of American Legion Carver Post #961 over 45 years.
He was well known in local sports circles - having played for various fast pitch and slow pitch softball teams in the Reading area for many years and also for the Reading Keystone and Schuylkill County Coal Crackers semi-pro football teams. He also served as a youth football and baseball coach in the Gov. Mifflin area for many years.
Harold is survived by one daughter, Dawn (Johnson) Evans, wife of Wayne Evans, of Shillington; and one son, Jan-Michael Johnson, husband of Irene Johnson, of Spring Township; and a brother, Joseph Henry of Reading.
Other survivors include three grandchildren: Ryan, Devon and Rianna Johnson; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
He was predeceased by a sister, Barbara A. Key, widow of Lawrence Key.
A viewing will be held at St. James Chapel, 11 S. 9th St., Reading, PA 19601 on Saturday, December 10, 2011 from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Services will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the same location with Pastor Steven McCracken officiating.
