Harold P. Jockel

Harold P. Jockel, 90, of Spring Township, passed away Sunday, March 22, 2015 in the Reading Hospital.

He was the husband of Sara T. (Giamo) Jockel.

Harold was a member of St. Ignatius Loyola Roman Catholic Church, Whitfield.

Born October 13, 1924 in Manhattan, in the state of New York, he was the son of Peter Jockel and Christina (Steinert) Jockel.

He attended Manhattanville Jr. High School and Textile High School in New York City.

Harold was a U.S. Army veteran serving during 1943 and 1945. He also served in the U.S. Air Force during 1945 and 1948.

He was employed by GPU as a maintenance supervisor for 23 years, retiring in 1994.

Harold and his wife, Sara, liked to travel. He loved telling stories about growing up in New York City and his adventures in the Army and the Air Force. He enjoyed sitting on the front porch with his friend Buster the dog.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three grandchildren: Katie (Rizzuto) Murray, Louis M. Rizzuto and Ann (Rizzuto) Clancey. There are also three great-grandchildren:Carla Murray, Joe Murray and Enzo Rizzuto. He is also survived by his niece and primary care giver, Donna M. Gambler-Ritter and his nephews Robert and Kevin Clark of New York. He was predeceased by Kathryn (Spadafora) Jockel, his daughter, JoAnn (Jockel) Rizzuto and his sister, Dorothy (Jockel) Clark.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 11:30 a.m. in St. Ignatius R.C. Church, 2810 St. Albans Dr., Sinking Spring, PA 19608. Burial will be in the Laureldale Cemetery. Friends may call Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Ave., West Reading, PA 19611.
