Harold C. Sassaman

Harold C. Sassaman, 82, formerly of 1905 Elizabeth Avenue, Laureldale died March 15 at 4:05 PM in the Masonic Home, Elizabethtown where he had been since May 28, 1999.

He was the loving husband of Marjorie J. (Stoner) Sassaman, Mt. Joy, Lancaster County.

Born in Hyde Park, he was the son of the late Clarence and Bertha (Butz) Sassaman.

Sassaman was a Linotype Operator for the Reading Eagle-Times for 45 years retiring in 1986.

He was a graduate of Muhlenberg High School in 1940.

Sassaman was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during World War II.

He was a lifetime member of Grace Alsace United Church of Christ, Hyde Park, where he served as an Elder and was also the past president of the 50 Plus Club.

Sassaman was a lifetime member of the VFW Lt. Gen. H. Liggett Post #38, Reading.

In addition to his wife he is survived by two daughters, Donna J. (Sassaman) Hixon, China Spring, TX and Nancy J. (Sassaman) Kiefer, Lititz.

He is also survived by one brother, Donald C. Sassaman, West Chester and 2 grandsons.

Services will be held Friday at 1:30 PM in Grace Alsace Church. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park. Walter R. Christ Funeral Home, Inc., Laureldale is in charge of arrangements. Friends may call Thursday 6:30 to 8 PM at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to Grace Alsace Church 2151 Kutztown Road Reading, PA 19605.
