Herbert Scott Himmelberger, 60, of Spring Township, died of natural causes October 16, 2008 at 3:17 pm in the Reading Hospital and Medical Center, where he had been a patient for three weeks.
He was the husband of Carole Ann (Jarosynski) Himmelberger, whom he married October 10, 1970.
Born in Reading, PA on August 28, 1948, he was a son of Walter Harry Himmelberger of Shillington and the late Gladys May (Reaser) Madeira.
He was a graduate of Reading High School and a 1975 graduate of Reading Area Community College, with a degree in Criminal Justice.
H. Scott started his law enforcement career as a correctional officer at the Berks County Prison, later taking a job as a police officer with Kutztown Police Department.
He spent the next 16 years as a patrol officer with the Reading Police Department; being promoted to Criminal Investigator five years before retiring from the Police Department in 1999.
H. Scott then worked three years with the Berks County Sheriff's Department and was later employed by Boscov's East in their loss prevention office for five years, last working in May.
He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and an Army Veteran of the Vietnam Conflict where he served with the 1st Air Calvary Division.
H. Scott was also a lifetime member of the Harley Owners Group. He enjoyed traveling, history and was an avid Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers fan.
H. Scott is also survived by two children: Brooke Ann Himmelberger of Shillington and Bradley Scott Himmelberger of Spring Township.
Other survivors include three grandchildren: Caily Evelyn Himmelberger, Shae Spencer Himmelberger and Quinn Barbara Himmelberger.
He is also survived by four siblings: Keith A., husband of Monica Himmelberger of Shillington; Kim (Madeira) Kemmerling of Temple; Theresa (Madeira), wife of Daniel Wills of Sinking Spring and Stacey (Madeira) Rothharpt of Birdsboro.
There are also seven nieces, one nephew, six great neices and nephews and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
He is also survived by his two God Daughters: Kelly M. Essig and Madison R. Essig.
H. Scott was predeceased by a brother, Ronald Mark Madeira.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10:00 am in St. John the Baptist de La Salle Roman Catholic Church, Kerrick Road and Holland Street, Shillington, with Rev. Richard Clement celebrating. A viewing will be held Monday evening 6:30 - 8:00 pm in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Ave., West Reading. No public viewing on Tuesday. Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery, Muhlenberg Township.
