Gustav W. Schukraft

Gustav W. Schukraft, 81, of Fleetwood died of natural causes April 5th at 12:25pm in The Reading Hospital and Medical Center, where he had been since March 1st.

He was the husband of E. Frances (Loose) Schukraft.

Born in Philadelphia, he was a son of the late Gustav A. and Anna M. (Bregler) Schukraft.

He was a 1942 graduate of Fleetwood High School.

Schukraft was employed over 45 years as a carpenter for various different companies, retiring in 1991.

He was a Navy Veteran of WWII.

Schukraft was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ where he had served as a past Sunday School Superintendent and Choir member.

He was a First Aid and CPR instructor for over 35 years and an instructor for instructors over 20 years for the American Red Cross, Reading, where he had also received the Benjamin J. Rush Award in 1971 for Outstanding Contributions to the Health of the People of Pennsylvania.

Schukraft was a member of the Fleetwood Volunteer Fire and Ambulance Company, where he served as a First Responder, Driver and Fireman for 35 years.

He was a life member of the Fleetwood American Legion, Kutztown V.F.W. and the National Chapter of the Tin Can Sailor Association.

Schukraft is also survived by a daughter, Sharon L. (Schukraft) Dreibelbis of Ontelaunee Township and a son, Keith B. Schukraft of Leonardtown, Maryland.

Other survivors include a brother, Charles Schukraft of Pottstown, three grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a son, Gary N. Schukraft, who died March 10, 1987.

Services will be Monday at 10:00 am in St. Paul's United Church of Christ, 5 West Arch Street, Fleetwood, Pa 19522. Viewing Sunday evening 6:30 - 8:00 pm in the church. No public viewing on Monday. Burial with Military Honors will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Exeter Township. Contributions may be made to the church's memorial fund at the above address. Walter R. Christ Funeral Home, Inc., Laureldale is in charge of arrangements.
