Gustav W. Johnson, Jr., 86, of Whitfield passed away at home on February 29, 2016. He was preceded in death by his beautiful wife of 55 years, Eleanor (O'Brien) Johnson, who passed away February 22, 2012.
Born in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late Gustav W. Johnson, Sr. and Sarah A. (Rich) Johnson. Gus was the loving brother of the late Harold, Helene, George and Victor Johnson.
Gus graduated, with honors, from New York University in 1959, earning a bachelor's degree in Economics. He was a U.S Army Veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict. He worked as an accountant for Western Electric, AT&T and Lucent Technology for 41 years, retiring in 1987, as comptroller of the Reading Works Plant.
Gus enjoyed reading, history and was an avid New York Mets and Jets fan. He especially loved spending most, if not all of his time, surrounded by his adoring family. Gus was a member of St. Ignatius Loyola Roman Catholic Church, Whitfield.
Gus is survived by his three children: Robert F. Johnson, husband of Cheryl L. Johnson, Sinking Spring; Kenneth M. Johnson, fiancé of Karen L. Moleski, West Lawn and Carolyn J. DiFilippo, wife of Thomas P. DiFilippo, Morrisville. Other survivors include his 9 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, with 2 expected to arrive in Spring/Summer. He is also survived by his loving sister, Jean Heza, Queens, NY.
A viewing will be Sunday from 6 to 9 p.m. and Monday from 10 to 11 a.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Ave., West Reading. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 11:30 a.m. in St. Ignatius Loyola R.C. Church, 2810 St. Alban's Dr., Sinking Spring, PA 19608. Interment will take place at Gethsemane Cemetery, Laureldale. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his name may be made to: St. Ignatius Loyola R.C.
