Grace Louise Hassenbein

Grace Louise (Keeney) Hassenbein, 81, died on Nov. 5, 2013, surrounded by her family, at the Reading Hospital.

Born in Reading on July 14th,1932, she was the daughter of the late Cormack Gallagher Keeney, (of Glenties, Ireland) and Dorothy Bridegam. She was preceded in death by her siblings: Dorothy, Bernard, Cormack Greg, Willis and Leroy Jack. She had two half-sisters: Mildred & Helen.

She is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, August W. Hassenbein, their only son Erik, his wife Sharon, and their children, Isaac & Ivy, of San Jose, CA.

She was also the surrogate mother of her sister's daughter, Cindy Lee and her husband Rick, and regarded their three sons, Ross, Nash, & Conner as her precious Grandchildren.

She greatly loved her siblings' children: Dorothy, Patricia, Debbie, Michael, Robert, Kristi, Sean, Autumn, and their children. Autumn's daughter, Maegyn, especially brought her joy daily.

Grace was a graduate of Central Catholic High School's class of 1950.

Grace's gift was to meet people with unconditional love and make whoever she was with feel important and welcome. She shared life's passages through her little books of photos with family, friends and customers, and took the time to share & enjoy stories of their children, grandchildren and their cats. She loved cats. Princess, Fuzzy, Sierra, Sushi & Kakuu were beloved.

A viewing will be held Sunday afternoon from 3:00 to 5:00 pm at Kuhn-Stitzel Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc., 3300 Kutztown Rd., Laureldale.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, November 11th at 1:30 pm in the Chapel of Resurrection at Gethsemane Cemetery, 3139 Kutztown Road, Muhlenberg Township. Entombment will be in the Cemetery Mausoleum. Friends and family are welcome to attend.
